Jonathan KYLE Farmer has an undergraduate degree in fashion design and technology, and completed his master’s in Fashion Womenswear in London at the Royal College of Art (RCA). Farmer has worked in London, Italy and New York as a fashion designer and illustrator; and has worked with Max Mara, Benetton and Bruce Oldfield, among others. Farmer has taught at the BFA and MFA levels internationally, has contributed to many books, and consults on trend services like Stylesight. As a futurist, Farmer’s approach as an educator and practicing designer is one of exploration and innovation, challenging the general perception of what it is to be a fashion designer. Farmer’s future projects include a book about visual language/visual literacy and new ways of designing fashion, as well as continuing to develop “Drawing with Scissors, Designing and Patterning in 5D,” featured above.
Farmer is currently a professor at Parsons The New School, and teaches students in the Fashion Design and Society MFA program.
